The Chitrakote Falls situated near Jagdalpur in Chattisgarh is famously referred to as the Niagara of India because of the similar horseshoe structure found in the actual Niagara Falls in between Canada and USA. The wide turbulent water veil has a width of about 985 feet and a length of about 30 meters.
During the monsoon months, the Chitrakote Falls offers a spectacular panorama. The waterfalls look so mighty and magnificent creating beautiful occasional rainbows while falling over the River Indravati. There are a few Shiva shrines and Shiva Lingas near the waterfalls which attract quite many travelers.
During the summer season, however, the width of the waterfalls decreases and the falls rush down in three not-so-wide rapids. In the winters, the place around the falls look so beautiful and have a melancholic ambiance.
The majestic view of the Chitrakote Falls can be best enjoyed on a paddle-boat ride cruising you near the site of the waterfalls.
