Double Decker Living Root Bridge
This 3 Kms long root bridge is made up of the roots of Indian Rubber Tree. The bridges are located above a height of 2400 feet. This natural bridge formed when the locals started training the growing roots of the tree to facilitate the formation of the bridge. The upper tier of the bridge is a difficult hike and can only be done by the people who are physically fit. Nevertheless, the experience of hiking in this natural phenomenon is really awe-inspiring.
Umngot River (Dawki):
The Umngot River is the cleanest river in India. The water surface is so clean that you can see the under-water land surface very clearly while riding a boat through the river. At times it appears that the boats sailing on the waterbody are floating on air. The experience of this boat ride is absolutely breathtaking.
Mawlynnong Village:
The Mawlynnong Village is the cleanest village in Asia. If you want to be mesmerized with the picture postcard-like natural views, you should visit Mawlynnong Village. The sights around the village are marvelous. Even the dry leaves of the trees end up straight in the bamboo dustbins installed in almost all places here. The residents maintain the sanctity of the village by cleaning up even a tiny speck of dust that comes on the way.
Mawsmai Cave:
The underground world comes alive on a visit through the Mawsmai Cave. The length through the cave is 150 m. While walking through the cave, you can come across a variety of flora and fauna which have made the cave their home. You can also observe unique patterns created over the walls of the cave by the light entering through numerous cracks on them.
Nohkalikai Falls:
The Nohkalikai Falls offers a spectacular view when the gushing water plunges incessantly to a ground 335 m below from a forested cliff. The waterfalls appear majestic, fierce yet so very beautiful. Sad folklore associated with the Nohkalikai falls makes it a poignant sight too.
Balpakram National Park:
In the Garo Hills of Meghalaya, at a height of about 3000 ft above the sea level, the Balpakram National Park is an example of nature’s grace. The Park houses some of the rare species of fauna like Lesser Panda, Serows and Indian Bison. It is a hub of rare medicinal plants too. The beauty of the Balpakram National Park has been multiplied many times by the presence of a deep gorge. There is a local belief that the gorge serves as a temporary abode of the spirits before their journey to heaven.
